Two ways to make a display personal

Frontier Fireworks uses fire writing and lancework to add a personal touch to a display. Both put words and shapes in bright flame right at the front of the firing site, which makes a wonderful backdrop for photographs as the fireworks burst behind. They are two slightly different crafts, and both are popular with wedding clients in particular.

Fire writing

Fire writing is an ancient form of creative fire, used for centuries for processions and for making a statement. It had been somewhat lost over the years, but we learnt the skill and use it in a good number of displays every season. We set special rope onto a metal framework in all kinds of shapes and wording, and it burns with an impressive flame for around seven to eight minutes, depending on the wind.

Wedding clients love having their initials either side of a burning heart, which is both romantic and a brilliant photo opportunity. We have also used fire writing to theme a display, including a set of planets we made for a primary school workshop, which then appeared in a display themed around the solar system.

Lancework

Lancework is where we set lances onto a wooden frame to depict messages or images in bright flame. It comes in a range of colours and burns for around a minute. It is hugely popular with wedding clients, from a champagne bottle that pops its cork with a spray of imitation champagne, to the couple’s initials either side of a red heart. Lancework is very safe, produces minimal debris and is silent, so it adds something personal and different without any noise. We can also create custom logo designs, given enough lead time, which look very effective for anniversaries and launches.

A message in flame for the Red Arrows

We provided a special lancework message for the 50th anniversary of the RAF Red Arrows, which read “#REDS 50 SMOKE ON….GO” and opened a spectacular display to mark the occasion in style.

Fire writing and lancework are most often added to our wedding and party displays.
