Barge and over-water firework displays

Fired from boats, barges and pontoons on rivers, harbours and out to sea, with the platform, the safety and the design all handled.

Experienced over-water displays, working to strict harbour regulations and full risk assessments.

Displays fired from the water

Frontier Fireworks designs and fires firework displays from floating platforms across the UK, whether that is a boat, a barge or a pontoon, on rivers, lakes, within estuaries and out to sea. It takes a different kind of knowledge to a field display, from designing the show to understanding the limits of the craft you are firing from, and it is something we have done for years.

Over water is where some companies come unstuck

There is a lot to get right on the water, the platform, the harbour rules, the safety and the design, and not every company can do it. We have picked up jobs, including a wedding, where another company took the booking and then realised it could not fire out to sea. It pays to use a company that has done it before.

What you get

You get a display designed specifically for the water and the craft it is fired from. We work closely with harbours, we understand the strict regulations they set, and we complete detailed risk assessments specific to each venue. A waterborne display also looks completely different to a field show, with the fireworks reflecting off the water for a photogenic finish. Debris is less of a worry once we are well offshore, though strong winds can still stop a display.

Case study

A couple of displays we are proud of

The British Airways i360 launch. We were chosen over a number of other companies to fire the launch of the British Airways i360, because it meant designing and performing a complicated display out to sea. We booked a boat that gave us a stable firing platform, loaded in harbour, and sailed out to choreograph a display to music around 500 metres offshore. The organisers were delighted, and we could hear the crowd of thousands cheering from the beach.

A secret wedding display off the coast. A wedding client came to us at short notice after another company could not deliver his display out to sea. The brief was that nobody but him knew it was happening, kept secret until the last second. We had one team on the beach and one on the barge, and the moment his guests were in place we fired a spectacular display off the coast in Swanage Bay. It was the talk of the town for months.

Why people choose us for over-water displays

Firing over water comes down to logistics, the right platform and a display designed for the setting. We have done all of it before, with the harbour relationships and the safety record to back it up. It is the same care that runs through our wedding and party displays, our public and corporate displays and our health and safety.

A few things people ask

Yes, all three. The right platform depends on the location and the kind of display you want.

Yes. We work to the strict regulations that harbours set and complete a risk assessment specific to each venue before we fire.

Rain is rarely a problem, as our fireworks are waterproofed, but strong winds can stop an over-water display, just as they can on land.

Yes. We are based in East Sussex and fire over-water displays around the coast and inland across the UK.
